Elland Road

Images from visits to Elland Road, home of Leeds United. Talking about the logistics, catering and matchday experience, along with details of my visits to the stadium.

I first visited Elland Road way back in January 1995 to watch Walsall in an FA Cup replay. I remember the stadium being more yellow, though only the South East 'cheese wedge' is actually fitted with yellow seats.

Arriving

As visiting supporters your coach will be kettled into a dedicated coach park for visiting supporters behind the John Charles West Stand. From there you walk through an avalanche tunnel to the away compound at the far end of the stand.

Stadium

The stadium is immense, it currently holds a little under 40,000 seats, but with early plans to expand substantially. You sit opposite the immense Jack Charlton Stand, with the Don Revie Stand to the left, and the Norman Hunter Stand to the right, with that cheese wedge in the far-right corner. I guess thats probably where they put us when I attended all those years ago.

I was quite impressed with the disabled verandah installed below me, which seemed to run out to the lifts on the level - I thought that the disabled provision looked excellent.

Hospitality

I couldn't get excited about the away fan zone, though it was great to see one. I don't drink, and I didn't see any food - so I went straight upstairs to take a few photographs of the stadium while it was still relatively empty.

I paid Β£4.95 for a cheeseburger, and Β£3 for a bovril. On the expensive side, but the burger was quit edible in contrast to the very similar hockey pucks they serve at Goodison.

Getting Away

Leaving the stadium is straightforward. Once you have made your way back through the prison tunnel to the coach, it is just a few hundred metres to the M621 junction once you are moving.
