In the second book of the series Ramsay hunts for the murder of an elderly landowner, and, later, his prime suspect.

I’m attempting to read a minimum of 15 minutes per day, aiming to improve my resilience, put the news to one side, and be more focussed in what I do read.

I did not feel that this book was as strong as the other Ann Cleeves books that I’ve read.

I struggled a little to connect with the characters, and to retain information about them.

When the murderer was revealed, it felt like the identity dropped out of the sky, and that Cleeves could have selected any if the main characters.

Perfectly readable, but there are better Cleeves books out there.
